August is officially National Twin Month, and at Gem Hats, we’re celebrating the beautiful bond of twins in the best way we know how: with stylish, matching (or total opposite) accessories! Whether you're an identical duo or fraternal siblings, this month is all about embracing that special connection.

Why Do We Celebrate National Twin Month?

There's something magical about two people sharing the same birthday, often growing up with a mirror-like connection, finishing each other’s sentences, and sometimes even sharing the same taste in hats. National Twin Month honors that unique bond—whether it's biological, emotional, or symbolic.

It’s a time to spotlight:

The Story Behind the Brand Name

The brand name Gem is actually short for the Spanish word Gemela, meaning twin in English. Owner and founder of Gem Hats, Caroline, is a twin and she also has younger sisters who are twins. The two sets of twins are very close, and Caroline's sisters have been a big support system through the launch and growth of Gem Hats. In fact, the Gem Hats logo is a spin off of a meaningful symbol for the four sisters.

The twin sisters have a shared tattoo of the mathematical symbol of congruency, or the combination of the equals sign (=) with the tilde (~). The sisters added an extra tilde to their tattoo to represent the 4 of them, specifically as it pertains to their harmonious, special relationships. When Caroline decided to launch Gem Hats, she wanted to incorporate this special symbol into the logo of the company. One of the younger twins, Jackie, had the idea to turn the symbol into a hat by adding one more line - the brim of the hat if you will. From there the Gem Hats logo was born.
